I switched from coffee to tea a few months ago, purchased this unit and am completely happy with it ... I can't recommend it highly enough. It's well made, ergonomic, well thought out, and a joy to use. The Japanese think of everything. A Japanese friend of mine told me that homes in Japan almost always have one of these units, or one like it. Now that I drink only tea, I can understand why.
The three temperature settings (well, four if you count boiling) are perfect. 208 is good for herbal teas, tissanes, and also the increasingly popular (and wonderful) Rooibos. That's also a good temperature for ramen, oatmeal, etc. 195 is good for black tea and also oolong, and 175 is good for green tea or white tea. Now, you can make gourmet tea properly with no muss and no fuss. Just get yourself some gourmet loose tea, herbal tea, or Rooibos, (all available from Garrett, Adagio, or Teavana), and a convenient brewer, like "IngenuiTea" from Adagio (Teavana also makes a good one that might be slightly better in quality), and you will be good-to-go! Your taste buds will thank you and so will your body. (The health benefits of green tea and oolong are well-known, and also Rooibos has 30-50 times the antioxidants of green tea, and no caffeine). My blood pressure has dropped 20 points with less caffeine (compared to caffeine in coffee, black tea = 20-25%, oolong = 10-15%, green = 5-10%, white = 1%, rooibos and herbal = 0%).
Buy a Zojirushi! You won't be disappointed.

I have always been a tea drinker, and after my last tea kettle broke (again!), I did some looking and came across this pot. It's not a cheap pot, but I blessed the day it came into my house. I can't boil the pot dry--it would shut down anyway, and this was important. It really does dechlorinate, so when I start to taste a little chlorine in the water again I empty the pot out and refill it completely, which takes care of it. For as much as I use this pot, day in and day out, a number of cups of tea a day, I appreciate it every time I use it. The water is always piping hot (I really hate tepid tea) when I want it, no waiting for a kettle to boil. It has a 7 hour timer so it can be turned off at night and when I get up in the morning there's hot water waiting. I could wish it had been priced a little lower, but I would not want to sacrifice the quality for a lower price.
UPDATE: I've now had this pot close to 5 years. There is now one small spot of rust about the size of a pinhead just starting in the bottom of the pot, but the rust spot has looked about the same for 6 months now and is not progressing. I'm starting to look into the possibility of replacing the pot, though, in case it does start to enlarge. So far this small spot has not affected the functioning of the pot in any way. It still does the job, day in and day out, every single day of the year. I will certainly buy another one when I need to replace it, the "cost per year" is much cheaper than replacing tea kettles that break too often, plus I have the convenience of hot water waiting for me every morning. I still love this pot!

Just bought this pot. It is amazing. I'm going to use it at work where I have to go down stairs all the time to boil water. I can fill this on Monday and it should give me on-demand hot water for three to four days right in my office. It makes it easier to drink more tea.
This hot pot is pure Japanese. Everything has been cleverly thought out. It is well contructed and it works great. The panorama water level indicator is very cool. Don't worry about the non-stick coating, it's safe. There's a slight learning curve to using the pot, but it becomes intuitive very quickly. This pot is meant to be left on continuously, but you can shut it down for seven hours with the timer feature.
This is a great item with Japanese quality and inovation throughout. I highly recommend it.

This one-touch, electric pot has a computerized temperature control system that brings water to a boil so you have hot water for making tea, instant soups, cocoa and more. Its compact design takes up little counter space so it's ideal for smaller kitchens or your pantry shelf. The side window gives a quick glance at the water level while the large, digital LCD panel lets you check the water temperature which operates at 175 to 208 degrees. To keep your water crystal clear, the pot has a Dechlorinate and Descale button to reduce chlorine and musty odors. Comes with an auto shutoff for added safety and a 3-ft. power cord. Zojirushi Window Micom Electric Dispensing Pot Videos.A handy workhorse for homes where tea is a staple, this 4.0-liter Micom pot from Zojirushi boils water then keeps it hot. Equipped with a handy electric dispenser, the unit requires no pouring and makes it easy to fill mug after mug or add a quick shot of hot water to a bowl of oatmeal or ramen. A micro-computerized heating system monitors water temperature precisely and includes a re-boil mode and three keep-warm settings of 175, 195, and 208 degrees F. In addition, a dechlorinating mode helps reduce chlorine and odors, while a descaling mode cleans the interior pot. The unit also has a timer so you can program it to have water hot on your schedule.
The pot’s control touchpad is cleanly laid out, with satisfying buttons, function lights, and a digital display that shows present water temperature, temperature setting, and remaining time. An automatic lock helps keep fingers safe, and an automatic safety device cuts power to prevent overheating. Other helpful details include a wrap-around water level gauge, a 360-degree swivel base, a nonstick interior, a removable power cord, and a basket-style handle to simplify transport. The pot is no speed demon, taking about 35 minutes to boil 4.0 liters, but its convenience makes up for the initial time investment. Zojirushi also makes the pot in 2.2-liter and 3.0-liter versions. --Emily Bedard
From the Manufacturer
What Makes the Panorama Window Micom Electric Dispensing Pot Special?
Unlike a kettle you heat up on the stove or an electric kettle that boils and shuts off, the Panorama Window Micom Electric Dispensing Pot boils water without getting hot on the outside and keeps the water hot as long as it’s plugged in. It’s safe, convenient, and once you have one, you will never live without one. The Panorama Window water level gauge, multiple temperature settings, and electric dispensing makes this electric dispensing pot extra special and convenient.
Hot Water, All Day Long
An electric dispensing pot is a kitchen appliance that keeps water at a constant hot temperature for hot drinks and other culinary uses. You simply fill the pot with water and plug it in. It boils the water and keeps it at a set temperature all day long.
Multiple Temperature Settings
The Panorama Window Micom Electric Dispensing Pot has three keep warm temperatures: 175°F, 195°F, and 208°F. The lower temperatures are perfect for brewing green tea, and the almost-boiling 208°F can be used to make instant coffee, instant noodles, oatmeal, blanching vegetables, or anything that uses hot water. Additionally, the pot will reboil to 212°F anytime you hit the Reboil button.
One-Touch Dispensing
The Panorama Window Micom Electric Dispensing Pot features one-touch electric dispensing, so you can pour hot water with a touch of a finger. To make it more convenient, it has a swivel base to turn smoothly.
|
The Panorama Window Micom Electric Dispensing Pot has a large LCD display that shows actual water temperature at all times (in 10°F increments), so you can check the temperature of the water at-a-glance. |
The large water level gauge makes it easy to check how much water you have left. And just in case the water runs out, it has a safety feature that will automatically shut the unit off to prevent overheating.
Safety is Always Important
With an electric dispensing pot, you don’t need to worry about that kettle boiling on the stove. It’s all electric. And not only does the Panorama Window Micom Electric Dispensing Pot automatically shut off when there is no water left, it also keeps the dispense button locked until the Unlock button is pressed, just to make sure that hot water isn’t dispensed accidentally.
|
All Zojirushi electric dispensing pots feature a descaling and dechlorinate mode to keep the pot sparkling clean. Not only is the interior nonstick coated for easy cleaning, but it is also easy to clean because the opening is wide and the lid is removable. Any lime scale build-up is removed with no effort with a descaling cleaner. |
